That experience makes me feel pretty comfortable with my .357 six inch GP-100 for shots on deer up to 50 yards provided an appropriate load. Unfortunately, it doesn’t usually work out that way, and for many people, the main limiting factor is money. I do reload both calibers and like the 357/38 for competitions. When things turned modern cowboy action shooting took over the lever rifle sales and again competition shooters wanted rifles and chambered ammunition like the 45 Colt Long, 357 Magnum, or 44 Magnum rounds. More modern revolver rounds, such as the .357 Magnum, .41 Magnum and .44 Magnum enhance the performance of these handy carbines and are excellent for short range deer and predator hunting. My .45 Colt is a plinking gun and for cowboy competitions. Winchester has also produced limited runs of Model 92's (calibers .357 Mag., .44-40, .44 Mag., and .45 Colt . It is really going to rely on what you want to do with it. All Model 94's chambered for revolver cartridges have since been discontinued. The 1894C .357 is my truck gun, along with a .357 revo. But, a 357 Magnum revolver is a very different firearm than a lever-action rifle chambered in 357 Magnum with a 20-inch barrel. Have tried a few in 300 grain and out of the rifles is awesome. With the longer sight radius, it might make it a little bit more accurate, but does it slow a bullet down considerably more with a longer Barrel. I am sure the Marlin and Winchester leverguns in 45 long Colt will also...especially since both easily handle the 44 mag round in the heavy commercial loads. My lever guns are all Marlins.
